Quartz often occurs as crystals and for this reason it was held in high regard by the ancients. For instance the crystal ball of the fortune teller was made from clear quartz. The ancient Japanese believed that quartz was formed by the breath of a white dragon and thus became a symbol of perfection. On the other hand the Native American Indians believed that quartz could detect food that had gone off.

Quartz also adorned the many temples of the ancient Chinese and during the middle ages many Christian relics were made from Quartz, who like the ancient Greeks believed that it was fossilized ice.

The most relevant to us today of course is the belief that rose quartz is thought to be a love enhancer and has been highly prized for its mystical attributes. Supposedly it would give you improved self worth and it will bring comfort to the broken hearted, and it was even thought to prevent wrinkles… now that is a good reason…
